I managed to scribble out a few posts here during the years I was in graduate school. After a few years of teaching high school, I returned again to a university setting and am now a year into coursework for a law degree. It seems that whenever I’m in a classroom but not standing at the lectern, the chances of me writing a blog post approach 100%, [if (C & ~L), B].
While I had no intention of reviving Popery, I returned to WordPress to begin another blog that I hope will be valuable for other individuals interested in environmental law. Throughout my first year of law school I’ve been intrigued by everything from disputes over affirmative action (e.g. Bakke versus Grutter forms of analysis) to the erosion of chancery courts and the survival of certain kinds of equitable remedies. But it wasn’t until a few months ago that I decided to study environmental law, which for me includes not only questions of governmental regulation to achieve clean air, water, etc., but also land use, energy, property rights, water rights, and so on. Since, as a rising 2L, I can barely make out the outline of such fields of the law, I’m hoping to use EnviroLaw to hold myself accountable to self-teaching and provide a means for other people in my situation to have a somewhat guided introduction to the field. In the land of the 1Ls, the rising 2L is king, etc. etc.
But that resource will be, as a matter of necessity, a very focused repository of legal review and summary, and will have very little to do with the beliefs that led *me* to become interested in how we use the natural world around us. So I hope to use Popery as a forum for my admittedly somewhat greener reflections.
And, as writing on a single topic seems to do, I imagine I’ll also return to Popery to discuss other topics that I used to treat on this blog. I hope that the 5+ years in between my last post and this one have included at least a little growth as a writer. A brief review of some of the old posts have left me cringing, but I’ll leave them up anyways.
